Terms and conditions
Last updated: 18 September 2026
These terms govern your use of the Sightline app for macOS and this website. By installing or using Sightline you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
The short version
- Sightline captures your screen when you ask it to, and when an agent you approved asks it to.
- What you capture, and what you let an agent do with it, is your responsibility.
- It is sold as is. We do not promise it works with every app, that text recognition is accurate, or that it stays available.
- Your screenshots are yours. We never see them, and we cannot get them back for you.

What you capture is your responsibility
Sightline photographs whatever is on your screen when you tell it to. It cannot tell whose data is on that screen, whether you are allowed to record it, or whether a window holds someone else's personal information, a customer's records, a password or material belonging to someone else. That judgement is yours every time.
You are responsible for making sure your use of Sightline follows the law and any agreement you are under, including data protection rules, confidentiality obligations to an employer or client, and the terms of the apps and services you capture. Do not use Sightline to record people without a lawful basis, or to copy material you have no right to copy.
AI agents and the MCP server
Sightline can let an AI agent take, read and annotate screenshots through a local MCP server on your Mac. You choose which agents to connect and you approve each one. Once you approve an agent, it can capture your screen within the permission you granted, and a screenshot may contain anything visible at that moment.
Agents such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Codex are separate products, made by other companies. What an agent does with a screenshot afterwards, including sending it to its own provider for processing, is governed by that agent's own terms and privacy policy, not by ours. We have no control over it and take no responsibility for it. Approving an agent and deciding what it may see is your decision, so approve only agents you trust and revoke access when you no longer want it.
What Sightline does not promise
Sightline is provided as is and as available. We do not promise that it is free of bugs, that it will work on every macOS version, that scrolling capture will succeed in every app, that text recognition will be correct, or that it will stay available. Text recognition is automated and makes mistakes, so check anything that matters before relying on it. macOS may change how screen recording, permissions or shortcuts behave, and an update can break a feature.
Using the app
You get a personal, non exclusive, non transferable licence to use Sightline on Macs you own or control, for as long as you comply with these terms. You may not copy, sell, rent, reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where the law expressly allows it. The app, its name, its icon and its design remain ours.
Purchases and the free trial
Sightline is sold through the Mac App Store, including its free trial. The payment, the receipt and any renewal are handled by Apple, not by us. Prices are shown before you confirm, and a trial becomes a paid purchase unless you cancel it before it ends.
Where Sightline is sold as a subscription, it renews automatically until you cancel, and you manage or cancel it in your Apple ID settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period. Refunds are granted by Apple under their own policy, so refund requests go to Apple. Your statutory consumer rights under Austrian and EU law are not affected by anything in this section.
Your data
Screenshots are saved to the folder you choose on your Mac. They are never uploaded to us, we cannot see them, and we cannot recover them if you lose them, so keep a backup if they matter. The privacy notice explains what is and is not collected.
Liability
We are not liable for lost data, lost profits, indirect damage, or for what a third party agent does with a screenshot you let it take.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including under the Austrian Product Liability Act and mandatory consumer protection rules. Where a term of these conditions turns out to be invalid, the rest stays in force.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms. The current version always lives at this address, with the date at the top, and continuing to use Sightline after a change means you accept it. Austrian law applies, excluding its conflict of law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in, and you may bring a claim in your own country's courts.
